Apple (and perhaps AT&T) reject Google Voice for iPhone users

(ip-192.com): Apple has rejected Google Voice, a service that offers a free phone number, free SMS text messaging, free domestic calls, and cheaper international calls, as well as advanced call screening features.  The app is currently available by invitation only on Android and Blackberry phones.

According to a Google spokesperson, the company is "… working hard to bring Google applications to a number of mobile platforms, including the iPhone. Apple did not approve the Google Voice application we submitted six weeks ago to the Apple App Store. We will continue to work to bring our services to iPhone users - for example, by taking advantage of advances in mobile browsers."

Many industry insiders blame AT&T for the decision, saying the company pressured Apple to reject it since it would interfere with its own pay-for service business.  IPhone customers can still access many of Google Voice’s features by using the web interface.
