Menlo Park (ip-192.com): Google has officially released version 3 of its Chrome web-browser. Chrome 3 boosts a 25 percent speed increase, mainly due to updates to the V8 JavaScript engine, a theme system, improvements to the Omnibox, and a redesigned New Tab page, according to Google.
The latest iteration of the browser, which has moved from its beta stage to what Google refers to as “stable development channel”, is only available for Windows users. Chrome 3.0 is based on 51 developer, 21 beta, and 15 stable updates, according to a Google blog post. It fixes 3,505 bugs.
Still, Google has a long way to go. Chromes market share is only 2.84 percent. However, the company hopes that this will change soon after signing a deal with Sony that will put Chrome as the default browser on all Vaio-laptops sold in the US. Google also announced that it is talking to other computer manufacturers.
If a Reuter’s news story is correct, Google is also preparing a stable built of Chrome for use on Macintosh computers by the end of 2009.
