Big Changes in MS-Project 2010

Redmond (ip-192.com): Microsoft promises big changes in its upcoming release of Project 2010. "Microsoft Project 2010 is the most significant release of Microsoft Project in over a decade," so Chris Capossela, senior vice president of the Information Worker Product Management Group at Microsoft. Microsoft says that Project 2010 will help organizations reduce costs by better integrating the product with SharePoint and Exchange Server. Changes to the current version include

  • Powerful new views;
  • Web-based project editing.

Improved execution with effective collaboration

  • Integration with SharePoint Server 2010;
  • Enhanced collaboration and reporting;
  • Integration with Microsoft Outlook 2007 and 2010;
  • Richer workgroup collaboration;
  • Enhanced time/status tracking.

Unified project and portfolio management

  • Common user experience through full PPM lifecycle;
  • Improved demand management;
  • Better reporting and BI.

Simplified deployment and extended interoperability

  • Microsoft Exchange integration;
  • 64-bit compatibility of client and server;
  • No ActiveX dependency.

Microsoft Project 2010 is part of Microsoft Office-related products, which include Microsoft Office 2010, Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010, Microsoft Exchange 2010 and Microsoft Visio 2010. The release is scheduled for the first half of 2010.
