Washington, DC (ip-192.com): The White House is moving its website content management to Open Source software. General Dynamics Information Technology, which maintains the White House site, announced that it switched to Drupal over the weekend. “We want to improve the tools used by thousands of people who come to WhiteHouse.gov to engage with White House officials, and each other, in meaningful ways. We now have a technology platform to get more and more voices on the site. This is state-of-the-art technology and the government is a participant in it,” said White House new media director Macon Phillips.
If nothing else, the White House announcement brings a big boost to the Open Source community, signaling that Open Source software meets the stringent security requirements of the White House. While Microsoft has an office in Washington, DC not far from the White House, its lobbying obviously hasn't succeeded in this case.
