Dell launches smartphone in China, Brazil

Round Rock (ip-192.com): Dell plans to sell its new Mini 3 smartphones equipped with Google’s Android mobile software, as the computer maker enters the growing and crowded mobile phone market. Dell plans to sell the new phone through China Mobile in China and Claro in Brazil.

While there was a lot of chatter in October that Dell is in talks with AT&T to launch an Android-based smartphone in the United States, the company did not mention any plans for the US market in its current announcement. However, Dell has already submitted the Dell Mini 3iX to the FCC for approval on the AT&T network.

"Our entry into the smart phone category is a logical extension of Dell's consumer product evolution over the past two years," said Ron Garriques, president of the Dell Consumer Products Group. "We are developing smaller and smarter mobile products that enable our customers to take their internet experience out of the home and do the things they want to do whenever and wherever they want."

Dell confirmed that it has relationships with Vodafone in Europe, Australia and New Zealand; AT&T and Verizon in the U.S.; M1 and Starhub in Singapore; and Maxis in Malaysia.
