Dallas (ip-192.com): “Sorry this package is not available in your area" is the message potential iPhone customers that live in New York City and some surrounding areas get when they try to buy the device and sign up for service through AT&T’s website. The Consumerist chatted online with an AT&T representative who confirmed that “…the phone is not offered to you because New York is not ready for the iPhone.” There are unspecified reports that fraudulent activity may be the cause of the problem, others point to AT&T’s networks that are stretched to the limits.
AT&T and Apple continue to sell the iPhone in stores. Customers also report that Apple’s online store still takes orders originating from New York City Zip-Codes. The Washington Post reports that AT&T did not respond to requests for information. "We periodically modify our promotions and distribution channels” is the only statement that AT&T released. Everybody will be able to hear AT&T clearly now!
