Abilene (ip-192.com): Sprint is determined to surf the current iPad wave and opens its 4G network to the tablet. The carrier just introduced a case designed to hold the Apple’s iPad and Sprint’s portable 3G/4G WWAN modem that allows the tablet to connect to the WiMAX network at 4G speeds, or fall back to the 3G network if the user is out of
range.
The Overdrive creates an instant HotSpot to connect up to 5 Wi-Fi enabled devices within a 33 feet (10 meter) radius to Sprint’s network using Wi-Fi. The pre-loaded connection management software automatically installs and connects to the best available network for the selected mode. A small LCD display indicates battery and connection information, and users can surf the net or play games for up to 6 hours on a charge.
The overdrive 3G/4G mobile HotSpot is currently available for $80 to $100, and a data plan will cost around $60 per month. The case designed for the iPad and the modem is available for free at Best Buy in selected states with the purchase of an Overdrive modem.
