McAfee promises reimbursements

Santa Clara (ip-192.com): McAfee says that it will reimburse users affected by the faulty update to its security software. The "false positive" did wreck havoc on computers worldwide that updated their Antivirus signatures last week (ip-192.com reported here).

"If you have already incurred costs to repair your PC as a result of this issue, we’re committed to reimbursing reasonable expenses. Steps to process your reimbursement request will be posted in the next few days. Please check back here in a few days," the Santa Clara based computer security company says on its website. McAfee also offers a two year extension of existing McAfee subscriptions free of charge to customers that had to deal with inoperable or severely impaired PC’s "as a result of the faulty file released. We’re committed to getting this issue resolved for all our customers worldwide as quickly as possible."

Since McAfee only addressed Home and Home Office consumers in the statement, it was not immediately clear if the offer would include small and medium businesses (SMB) and corporate customers as well.
